PARK LIGHT 2015 - ACT Wednesday, Apr 22, 2015

Join groups of local designers and test your creativity to create guerrilla lighting installations at the Yarralumla Brickworks.
IES: The Lighting Society & the Emerging Architects + Graduate Network have the pleasure to invite you to the 2015 Park Light event. For those unfamiliar with this event, it is our annual guerrilla lighting event where we take a random selection of light fittings to an interesting outdoor location, form groups, and let you exercise your creativity to collectively design a lighting scheme for a given site. Our panel of eminent judges from the local design industry will assess the final lighting installations, provide comment, and select a winner (with novelty prizes up for grabs).

This year’s event is being jointly run by the Lighting Society and the Emerging Architects + Graduates Network as a way of encouraging interaction between designers and educating young architects about lighting.

Although this is a fun event, it is also a highly valuable lesson in lighting design. Nothing beats hands-on experimentation and sharing of ideas with other professionals. In the past, attendees have included engineers, architects, landscape architects, students and various lighting industry professionals, so the potential for sharing ideas and learning is great. We recommend this for young and experienced designers alike.

This year’s location is very exciting – the Yarralumla Brickworks: Canberra’s very own historic, derelict industrial site (and recent filming location for a Billy Zane film!) – see some images of the site below. Making this even more exciting, the Brickworks is intended to undergo an urban renewal process in the not-too-distant future, and this is our chance to show the ACT Government how big a part lighting could play in this process.
