Our presenter Julien Freed has been involved in residential and commercial lighting for over 30 years. Having held the position of Principal Lighting Designer at two major engineering firms in Sydney, and now operates as an independent consultant. Julien has always enjoyed working with technology innovations from the introduction of low voltage halogen through to low wattage metal halide lamps and most recently the emergence of LED, a still-evolving technology that will drive enormous change in lighting and associated industries into the future.

This presentation will focus on the new possibilities opened by the ability to manipulate the white light spectrum of LEDs. We now have access to white light options including ‘regular’ white, high colour rendering, ‘vivid’ sources, even white light sources that produce hyper-saturated colours. We will present demonstrations of the various light sources, discuss human preferences for hyper-saturated versus regular saturation, and provide an introduction to the new TM-30 method for measuring and describing colour rendition.
