The event was officially opened by Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner who said, “SPARC is now a key creative industries business event on the Vivid Sydney program….we are thrilled to have SPARC Design as part of Vivid Sydney and we hope this is just the start of a very exciting collaboration that continues to get bigger and brighter each year.”

The event gave people a fabulous opportunity to learn about the beauty, art and science of lighting design when the whole world is watching the installations that have adorned the most beautiful harbour in the world.

Displays at SPARC Design included design concepts from leading names such as Tony Dowthwaite Lighting Design, Haron Robson, Lei Pang and Northrop.  There were also celebrations of innovative and exciting lighting projects from Toulouse Group, NZ, Point of View, Webb Australia, Sylvania Lighting and NDYLight.  The organisers were also thrilled to have student works presented from QUT, UTS and Sydney University – an amazing indication of the type of design and technology we can expect from future lighting designers!

An excellent program of speakers was provided including Wendy Davis - Sydney University, Chris Blewitt - migenius, Kam Dhatt - SLA, Tony Dowthwaite, David Lewis, Marc Simpson – Toulouse Group and Donn Salisbury who spoke about his award-winning work at MONA – the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart.

SPARC International Lighting Event – a major lighting conference, trade show and fabulous Gala Dinner - will be held during Vivid Sydney on 4-6 June 2013, and continues the strong relationship between Vivid Sydney and Australia’s lighting industry.
