On the first of May, Canberra IES held our inaugural Park Light Event. We were fortunate to secure an amazing location for the event – the sculpture garden of the National Gallery of Australia, on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin.

With a great turn-out of over 30 people, which included lighting designers, engineers, product reps, architects and landscape architects, we divided into six groups, with each assigned a site within the sculpture garden and a random collection of luminaires. Fuelled by pizza and soft drinks, the groups set about their designs. Once the installations were done, each team presented their designs to the group, with the creativity of the lighting designs overshadowed only by the creativity of the explanations. The evening was a great success, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, making it a contender to become an annual event for Canberra.
