Canberra’s annual flower festival Floriade has for years drawn thousands of visitors from around the world each Spring. In recent years, the organisers have added an evening event over several nights of the festival with additional music, entertainment and of course the lighting.

For the last few years, lighting production company Mandylights has taken the event’s lighting installations to a new level of creativity. The Canberra IES group, for the second year in a row was lucky enough to be given a backstage tour by Mandylights, sponsored by Xicato. Twenty five of us were given a personalised tour of each part of the lighting installation, with explanations of the lighting concepts and technology used, as well as an insight into the challenges faced and practicalities of dealing with such a large outdoor site.
