The Iluka apartment building on the Surfers Paradise Foreshore will be used as a canvas for light projection in the second weekend (29th, 30th June & 1st July) of the Surfers Paradise Festival...

In association with the IES QLD, architectural & events lighting group ULA, & TDLD an event within an event has been planned for the Surfers Paradise Festival .

The Iluka apartment building on the Surfers Paradise Foreshore will be used as a canvas for light projection in the second weekend of the festival. This building is one of the original towers on the Gold Coast dating back to the late 60’s early 70’s, currently awaiting redevelopment & being a “dark” building it is ideal for ‘light painting’.

This has been in the planning for many months with the event managers Surfers Paradise Alliance, in particular Rob Thompson. The festival is an annual happening & has grown from year to year & this year is spread over a 3 week period from 20th June through to the 15th July.

As part of an endeavour to engage the public with one of the many aspects of lighting design, Tony Dowthwaite (TDLD) & Doug Brimblecombe (Lighting Director QPAC) have been working on pulling this together with the help of ULA. Acknowledgement must go to Con Biviano & Blair Terrace (ULA) in this regard.

The ULA Group is an integrated network of world leading lighting designers, manufacturers, and distributors who are bringing together industry know-how and new ideas to provide unrivalled lighting solutions for the professional, architectural and entertainment markets.

Having witnessed Vivid in Sydney recently it would be fantastic to use the art of light to transform Surfers Paradise in a similar way once a year.......hopefully this is the first step.

Hopefully you can get down and have a look.

See you there!
