With intrepidation and a bit of worrying about ‘what if this or what if that happens’, Tim Shotbolt agreed to participate in talk-back radio at the invitation of the ABCs ‘Homies’ program. This program is hosted by Simon Marnie for home handy-persons and renovators every Saturday morning 0900 to 1200 hours covering just about every aspect of home odd-jobs, renovation and gardening. The program is broadcast throughout New South Wales and podcasts are available as well. Participants in the program vary from week to week depending on listener response.

Representing the Illuminating Engineering Society, Tim was a guest on Saturday 28 June between the hours of 10:00 and 11:00am along with Brad the Plumber and the main topic was LED. The IES, as a volunteer industry society, was well promoted during the hour. Questions came from listeners in the far north of NSW and the far south of NSW as well as the central west. Questions ranged from genuine ‘what should I do’ to ‘I already know but just checking to see if you do’ type questions and also calls from those who didn’t really have a question but just wanted to have a chat. The listener response from the ABC’s perspective was positive so Tim was invited to return on 9 August for the same time slot, this time a little less apprehensive.
