In the past few months there has been a lot of activity in relation to Awards, Lighting Guides, Education, Marketing, Standards, Membership and CPD points.

I wish to highlight is that as Lighting Professionals our constant update and catch up with new technology is must, therefore is critical for us to consider CPD points. Currently only RLP is under the program of maintaining certain number of CPD points.

A lot of other professions require some sort of measurements for their professional development and constant upgrade of knowledge. Our Members would need to consider this as a normal initiative. Currently RLP is the only membership grade related to practicing Lighting Designers with maintaining CPD points.

MIES members not primarily involved in design would need also to advance professionally.

The Board has lengthy discussions of the appropriateness for the CPD points across all of the MIES and the suggestion from Barry to keep track on your professional development will be very useful in the near future.

Refer to the IES website for a more detailed 2014 Board News from the President Barry Gull.
